New Report Sites Examples of Conflict and Solidarity Between African American and Latino Immigrant Workers

Conflict and Solidarity Between African American and Latino Immigrant Workers is a new report written by Jennifer Gordon and R.A. Lenhardt at Fordham Law School for the Chief Justice Earl Warren Institute on Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity at the Berkeley Law School.

This paper provides a compelling analysis of how African Americans and recent Latino immigrants in the low wage workforce perceive their jobs differently and use different "yardsticks" to measure the meaning of this work and to determine what actions they are willing to take or not take in a workplace abuse situation. The authors look at case studies of examples of cooperation and solidarity among these two groups in the workforce. They draw on examples from Black Workers for Justice in North Carolina, the UFCW Justice at Smithfield campaign, and MPOWER, the poultry workers' center in Mississippi.
