Workplace Injury Project
In
collaboration with poultry workers, social justice advocates, workers'
compensation attorneys, and bilingual community partners, we educate workers
about health and safety at work and ensure that injured workers know their
rights and have access to the medical attention that they deserve. The goals of the Workplace Injury Project are
to:
- Ensure all injured workers have access to reliable medical treatment for injuries or illnesses occurring at their place of employment.
- Increase workers' access to the workers' comp system so that they are properly compensated for their injury or illness, medical expenses and lost time at work.
- Educate workers and community partners about workplace health and safety and about injured workers' rights to compensation so that they can become advocates in their workplaces and communities.
- Improve working conditions and stop retaliation against injured workers.
Our program combines education and advocacy with individual case management and other services. We help injured workers on an individual basis, but we also raise awareness about injured workers' rights and help workers learn about workplace safety and health in order to prevent injuries and increase injured workers' access to the workers' compensation system. We support workers of all backgrounds, and our experience has found that the Workplace Injury Project is especially important for immigrant workers whose limited English language proficiency often isolates them.
